Alright ladies and gents, after a nail biting week of not knowing if I could get the week off (due to a promotion and subsequently having all my vacation wiped out for the year), the Opel clan is packed and loaded and hitting the road tomorrow morning! We will see you all in Bishop Saturday morning. BTW, is Bishop worth staying in Friday night? We can't wait to meet you all and see the familiar faces. Now to try and go to sleep

James, get with Karl, he is camping near Bishop Friday night. Bishop is a town about 10k population and has most hotel amenities and food, if you are going the easy campway.

If I can make it all the way down there I will camp at Convict Lake. Otherwise it will be USFS primitive.

Anxious to see all the great photos from the trip.

Steve Smith called last night heading into Big Pine from DV, said it was awesome.
Apparently Mark got pretty sick mid-week and had to be hauled out by Coutrakis to Reno....hoping Mark is doing OK

Apparently Engineering pro Karl saved two guys in Jeeps who were stuck back beyond Mengel Pass with broken suspension....nice work..! Karl also ran into problems with his trailer but managed to fabricate a way out of that one too.

Hope all make it back in one piece!

Hi guys I am alive and surviving back in Atlanta.

On the way to Reno to meet Mike I had a stopover in Denver where evidently I picked up a cold bug from someone and by day 3 I had a 100 degree fever and was just sleeping in the vehicle most of the time. Mike was kind enough to drive me 5 hours back to Reno where he ended up getting it as well and had a temp of 101. So now Susan who was going to meet the group on Wednesday decided not to go and she had a great Mexican feast planned for the group which was now in Mikes car back in Reno.

So many plans and vacas ruined because of a stupid cold bug. I am so sorry for having brought this upon the group. Thanks to the group for their genuine concern for my welfare. They all pitched in to make me as comfortable as possible

The G group as we know is a tough nut to crack and pressed on having a great time. With the great views and the camaraderie of Gs how could they not.

We saw a young side winder who had not yet developed his rattle but stood up to Eric pretty well, several palm sized tarantulas, climbed the sand dune (Steve has a couple great shots that he will share later, rock crawling, saw 3,500 year old trees, went to high 11,000 ft elevations where virtually nothing lives (looks like a moonscape etc, etc....

Mark

I was lucky to make it over Tioga pass yesterday. THey had closed it due to snow fall from earlier in the week. On my way there, I heard it was closed again but this time due to a rock slide. DERN!. Kept pushing on and it was reopened by the time I arrived. Whew! Would have been a long drive home otherwise. Managed to pull into the drive way yesterday at 3PM.

Talked with Karl this morning. He was having his coffee and pie in Olancha. Should be home by now. Sounds like the chuck wagon was towing well enough. Nice job you guys on the repair.

It was Karl AND Alan who fixed the jeep at Mengel cabin. Pics of that will show up I'm sure. It was awesome. 45 minutes and they had a spring repair that will hopefully get those guys out.

Mark, we were sorry to see you leaving and sorry to hear that Mike was subsequently illin. You guys were missed.

Pics coming soon. Got to get back to the kids.

Steve Smith, One with Nature, A real Man's Man (what does that really mean?) :?

Steve here displaying his newly refinished ride informally known as "The Other White Meat." Very nice paint job. The black accents really popped.

Steve,

Great shots. The "Other White Meat" is looking great. (Are you peeing on the tire in that Man's Man picture?)
