Re: Death Valley Treffen 2014 - Picture & story thread

Yeah, saw that too. Very sad. Notice the chipped cinder blocks? Never, ever, use cinder blocks to support a hard object like a frame or axle. They are brittle and fail catastrophically, without warning. It will work fine 99 times and then crumble into gravel dust on the 100th. Or, maybe it will happ...

Re: Tire pressure All Terrain T/A

Yokohama Geolander AT-S, which is a single ply sidewall tire, thus more flexible. I was using 35psi for day to day driving, and up to 40psi for long road trips. 18psi when crawling. I generally replace tires at 50% of tread wear. These seemed to last nearly forever. Age and desert rock sidewall cuts...

x2 on the drum brakes. They are fantastic in actual use. Disks are great if you plan on racing on a track.
About the only drum downside is that they can take a moment to work after dunking in a river. Practically speaking, one always goes uphill after dunking in a river, so not a big deal.

Re: 463 front axle rebuild kit

Quick question? Is there any way to manually lock the center diff? I was told I can get power to the rear wheels if the center diff is locked. Pushing the center locker button isn't working for you? If the electronics part is dead, you can locate the vacuum tube going down to the center diff and pl...

Link? The ones I saw were miss-labled and at best would only fit the most recent mirror design.

Re: Is my exhaust heating my LR tire?

In my case it heats up the right rear tire. I haven't noticed any pattern of increased wear on the hot tire though.

If the rubber still looks good, perhaps you could epoxy a new fastener inside the rubber?

Re: WTB MIRROR LEFT SIDE

As long as the glass is good, silicone works wonders. Rut a ring of it on the back, clamp the glass into place with a sponge and some tape. A sponge has just the right give to hold it and conform to the position. No one will ever know and it will last longer than the new part.
