Re: Need help tracking an electrical fault W460 280GE 1982

Sounds like 2 separate issues. 4. Fuel pump is one and 5-9 relate to a possible grounding issue Because all instantly go on, the fuel pump and the dash lights, gauges, radio and cigar are connected to the same circuit. What I am trying to determine is what circuit, hence the effort to make the elec...

Re: Need help tracking an electrical fault W460 280GE 1982

Looking at the wiring diagram, I am trying to work out what feeds fuel pump relay, horn, turn signals, red oil light, red battery light, temperature gauge (but not fuel gauge) radio, cigar lighter, but not starter motor, headlights and emergency flashers. I must in today's technology world, it sure ...

Re: Need help tracking an electrical fault W460 280GE 1982

Let me add a bit more. The horn and turn signals do not work when the system blanks out. Here is the weird part. When the dash was lit up and the fuel pump working, I pulled out fuse #12 - no change, everything still works. To be sure I also pulled fuse #1 at the other end to ensure I was not mixing...

Re: W460 electrical issues, turn signals, fuel, temp gauge

I've started a new post, to not clutter up an old one. Yes, I found the recommendation on the fuses. I checked each one. 12 volt on the fuse box. I've also now finished color coding the wiring diagram to see if I can spot the common fault. Now here is the weird part. When the dash lights up and the ...

Need help tracking an electrical fault W460 280GE 1982

W460 1982 280GE (UK-RHD). Started the engine, was backing out. Engine quits. Seems the fuel pump stopped. On closer examination I find that if I turn the key the following: 1. Works: Fuel tank gauge 2. Works: Starter motor (cranks, does not start - no fuel) 3. Works: Headlamps and emergency flashers...

Color-coded W460 Wire Diagram

Having great difficulty reading a black and white W460 wire diagram and referencing the 81 components wires connect to, I have used Photoshop to color code the wires and typed in the components. Suggest it is checked for errors, and if OK, make it a sticky. I will post my problem that prompted this ...

Failed Warrant of Fitness

WDB46023327021627 failed its warrant of fitness, thus is off the road. At 400,000 miles and 38 years old, I can't complain, but living where I do, I need to order parts before starting the job. The mechanic wrote: Remedy play L/F Wheel Bearing & outer tie rod ends. L/R wheel play Brake pedal is ...
