Re: 617a crankcase ventilation oil recovery can design

blueg, Yes, I have owned a couple of turbo W 123 sedans, and the chief problem I had was the rubber mounts would separate and rattle. Apart from that, they were very wonderful systems. 'Still regret selling my 1984 W123. A friend bought it - he has six others - and seldom drives it, just to tempt me...

Re: 617a crankcase ventilation oil recovery can design

Last note on this topic from me. The local friend and G owner does use the old air cleaner housing from his 617 engine, but on the 617a he runs the cam cover vent to the air stream in front of the turbo, and the "T" tube to the crank case. Just as I have been doing. He has many years of su...

Re: 617a crankcase ventilation oil recovery can design

ProVent 200: I installed one of these on the fender wall as indicated in the manual/material. (This was my second effort.) It seemed to be the correct size for the engine, but it also appeared to create too much back crankcase pressure getting fumes/oil through the filter and chambers. (BTW: It is i...

Re: 617a crankcase ventilation oil recovery can design

Sounds like there's too much back-pressure on that separator, which is a real bummer. A giant version of it could possibly overcome the back-pressure, but it appears to me that the separator filter is just inherently restrictive and could continue causing issues anyway. That was my experience when ...

Re: 617a crankcase ventilation oil recovery can design

Thank you again, blueg. So, where does fresh air enter the 617a engine crankcase? You noted some V engines have an exit on one valve cover bank and a fresh air inlet vent on the other valve cover; But, where is the crankcase fresh air inlet on a 617/617a engine? Maybe the less than perfect seal on t...

Re: 617a crankcase ventilation oil recovery can design

Thank you PNZWGN, I actually spend a fair amount on two "catch cans" with hoses and drain devices. Both were a waste of time. So, back to the time-honored approach, but that too does not seem to address all issues that I have. So, my latest message is based upon the fact that I may not kno...

Re: 617a crankcase ventilation oil recovery can design

Thank you all for the comments and connections. "You will also need a port on the cam cover to allow air to enter replacing the air evacuated by the pressures of blow by. This way you have neither positive or negative pressure in your crankcase." Your comment blueg, (above) makes a great d...
