Re: 1983 280GE BM10 build and restoration

Looks like you are coming along fine. I just pulled my intake side off to refresh rubber idle air hoses, vacuum hoses, install new air valve and an unexpected broken decel valve. While I am there I decided to tackle the centering of my steering shaft to cancel turn signal switch properly. Also, on rei...

Re: W460 Steering Shaft Install - Retaining Ring Issue

I ended up pulling the steering tube. It seems the end bearings were giving me trouble on shaft removal...as at least one of them needs to be removed from the end. I will replace with new bearings and renew everything while it is out. I hope the steering tube goes in as easy as it was to remove...I ...

W460 Steering Shaft Install - Retaining Ring Issue

I separated the steering shaft so I can separate steering shafts and align the steering wheel. In order to do so, I removed the steering wheel and upper retaining ring to allow shaft movement and help enable separation at U-joint. I know, this was stupid. Now I cannot get the shaft installed correct...

Wow, pretty fancy there. I had a "me too" moment in 2012 when I developed a pinhole leak while visiting in Northern California. Putty application stopped it until I got back home. Rust was the culprit from dirt/dust buildup in area between tank and protection plate...as you have illustrate...

Re: What is more desirable for re-sale, automatic or manual transmission?

I always consider the Cabrio to be a “sportscar” so to speak....sportscars are made to be fun to drive. I feel a cherry cabrio ( in my world ) would probably be utilized to hobnob around town and a weekend funmobile....hence the manual transmission. If this was a 3 or 5 door more suited for daily co...

Re: 722.399 transmission Whine

I like the new transmission idea...solely in that all components are new, whilst on the rebuilt unit, there will still be components not replaced but still 30 years old. The rebuilder may offer a better warranty ? Is the new transmission warranty dependent on an actual MB tech doing the install ? Ju...

Re: 1983 280GE BM10 build and restoration

I would try and order parts. If found not available, I would probably wait and see if it something that gradually gets worse. If it does, then you know you need to find a machine shop that can remove and maybe make something up or modify some existing part from something else? Not really an answer t...
