Re: Used W460 Glove Box

These are so poorly designed. Mine is cracked at one of the screw holes but not this bad.

Seems like one should be able to plastic-weld it.

Re: Adding a Stereo to a W461

I prefer the factory location in the footwell area (kicker panel ?). No cutting needed (only in the cardboard and floor covering). See a picture here: http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.asp?tid=11566&posts=13&highlight=speakers&highlightmode=1#M174411 There's a 4x6"...

Re: Front diff seeping oil

Thanks for all the input. Dropped seal off at the mechanic today for him to replace it. I printed out the above pages from the manual for him, and he surprised me by saying he has a W460 workshop manual already and has done a bunch of these seals in the past. Knew all about crushing the sleeves. Fin...

Re: Adjusting 463 doors

These are the shims you are looking for. 460, 461, and 463. Usually 1-3 shims per door, they are thin metal plates that slide in with the hinge and door already mounted, but loosened. I have some extras. Wow, did not know this was an OEM thing! Any chance you can use a caliper to measure the thickn...

Re: Adjusting 463 doors

I don't mean to piggy back on the 463 thread with 460 questions, but it's probably better to put it all in one place. I just replaced the seals on my 460 and still have gaps on the diagonal of the door near windshield pillar (can see light above the seal). The hinges do seem to be shimmed already by...

Re: Otiswesty 300GD truck project

I remember replacing my G500 door as a major PITA. So I enlisted the help of my son with the first of the two assembled 300GD doors. Even with an extra set of hands, it was difficult and awkward. I used two shims per hinge and it seemed to line up well and close/open easily. The $15 door seals off ...

Re: DPUK video

Looking up these gearboxes in the forum brings up some great discussion, e.g. viewtopic.php?t=6687&start=10

Seems that these six speeds have slightly better gearing, but seem not worth the hassle with all the mods required to drop them in.

Re: DPUK video

The ZF 6 speed box depends if it is out of a gasoline or diesel model. The ratios on the gasser model is not very attractive. Diesel version looks like a closer match with my 6 speed nsg370 box. And that is brilliant for a overlanding vehicle. So it depends what is found in your particular part of ...

Re: Alternator woes

Thanks for weighing in, Vadim. I have the Bosch AL65X, I believe, which is 70A. Your 90A one must be the AL0161X? https://www.boschautoparts.com/en/auto/alternators-and-starters/remanufactured-alternators?partID=AL0161X Is there a way to tell if these are a direct swap? I'd prefer to avoid futzing w...
