Not sure if this applies here, but aren't shift delays and extended shift times pretty common to help warm up the catalytic converter equipped cars faster to help emissions ? Once warm things go back to shifting normal. I know my W124 / 400E did when rolling on cool mornings for the first 90 seconds...

Nice Mark....I too have the ashtray in same position as yours. I was always thinking someday of fabricating a “storage bin” to fit in its place as smoking is found to be unhealthy....unless SOMEONE beat me to it.
