Yesterday I welded in some new sheet metal in the firewall behind the left front fender.

Used the old drilled out spot weld locations to the right and butt welded edge to edge on the other sides.

Also put three spot welds (plug welds) to the attachment plates for the fender pin bolts after this picture was taken. The drilled holes are seen.

Primed it. Still some spot to grind lightly before painting it. Will have to do this job on the other side aswell first though.

I put some sealant around those studs, to prevent water that's coming down your firewall coming in between the sheet metal layers.

Thanks Bram! I will put sealant there.

Also going to put a string of sealant diagonally to lead water from the profile behind the hood, and towards the outside of the fender mount. Might even glue a slim metal profile there to lead water, we'll see.

A guy on the Norwegian G wagen facebook group wrote that the keys from his spare parts G, worked fine in his other G aswell. Tonight Calle came by and had a look at my G and showed me his red OM606 super G. Calle has really done an amazing job with the engine swap. Super fun G to drive! Looks really cool!

But the best part. Calles two spare keys worked in my G!! :D
Since they only worked in his drivers door I got them from Calle. Woho! 8-)

Be aware guys. Everyone who owns a w460 can drive yours too apparently.

Wow, I've been away from the forum for a few weeks, and what an update on this thread! Awesome to meet and see your work in person, this G will be almost TOO nice  - though I would really like to reach your level of finish one day. And hilarious how my spare keys would only work on drivers side (not even ignition), while they worked perfectly on ALL your locks?! Getting a steering lock now for sure, haha!

Thanks Calle! I might reach a nice finish on my G. But yours will always have better performance. :D Snail vs. Rabbit.

Yesterday I removed the last bits of the interior. Mainly because I will do full insulation of my G with styrofoam, rockwool, butyl etc. I will also use a completely air tight moisture barrier to avoid condensation on cold steel surfaces.

Removing the rest of the interior panels and the ceiling makes it easier to paint the complete inside of the car aswell wich will be done soon.

Another thing I have decided to do is to remove the windows in the rear passenger doors. I will mount a fixed window out of polycarbonate / lexan instead. The rear windows will keep the glass and have another layer of lexan inside the glass if I manage too.

Here I will try to mount a fixed Lexan Margard window in the right / left rear door. Any advise on that is welcome.

Working on this today.

Decided to replace the bottom part of the small beam under the pedals. Because of a lot of surface rust and hard to grind it off because of the small(er) beam for the body mount interfering. It turned out great.

Time to fit new floor board now.

Really cool to see the progression, I will have to work on my welding, awesome craftmanship there.

What are you plans for the interior? I mean, going fixed bullet proof glass in the rear? I am intrigued to say the least!
