I've got my car back from the mechanic!

I've still got a lot of work to do before I can go for a test drive though. Can anyone tell me what part needs to go on this pipe? I'm sure somethings missing here to hold the pipe in place:

The throttle linkage (and gearbox wire) are done as well, I hope it will work!

The pipe goes around my oil filter, but it doesn't have a clamp at the head. I think there is a mounting tab against the oil filter housing, but I'm not near the G at the moment.

Could it be a water pipe that connects to the cabin heater core?

If you get a chance to see what holds it in place I would be very grateful!

It is the heater water source. Sorry it will be at least a couple of days.

No worries Alan! I've got a feeling this is a case where I'm trying to fit a 603 part on a 606 and things get weird.

On the 603 there is a part (36) that looks like the right thing.

On the 606 I'm thinking maybe part 185 is the one?

Question remains though - which one to buy?

None of those looks right, from memory. 185 would lock in the part that you already have.

Things are progressing quite slowly here.

I put everything back together yesterday and tried starting the car. It was not willing at all. I had to use starting fluid to get it going but once running I think it sounds nice.

It smokes a LOT.

Here's a video;

Possible causes for hard start;
- 8 year old diesel in the tank.

- Two broken glow plugs (1 & 4) but once running this should not be much of a problem. Especially not in summer.

- I'm not using the wastegate that Dieselmeken sent with the pump - it looks the same as the the one sitting on the turbo now.

Revving the engine is no problem at all. Could a mistimed pump still be the cause even though the engine sounds good? Any more tips or ideas would be great :)

Yes, pump timing may need to be advanced.

This is how they all are if the pump has been installed one tooth off (~10 degrees out of time).

8 year old diesel just can’t be good. Plenty of algae in there.

Thanks for the advice. I've bought the Mercedes tool for locking the IP in place so hopefully I can set the timing correctly when it arrives.

While waiting for the tool i decided it would be a good idea to change a couple of broken glow plugs :D

You probably know where this is going.

The first one was no problem but #4 decided to break after threading out nicely half way.

I've seen a lot of clever ways to solve it. I've got another plan, how about a LEFT handed tap, followed by a left threaded bolt? That way i could hopefully thread it out the rest of the way.
