Thank you, the G made an excellent and trouble-free traveling companion.

After a week of driving it all day my daily driver e-class now feels like a Lotus, one of the many perks they don't tell you about G ownership.

It could certainly be a lot worse all things considered! I found anything above 65mph put a ceiling of about ~14mpg on my truck, seemed most efficient in the 40-60 range

Jesus is the mileage really that bad on those things? My 39 year old G gets around 17-18mpg. Of course its slow, a diesel, etc.. but, still, you'd think some evolution in overall engine tech, as super complex as it is, would be able to squeeze out 18-20 at least. Funny how my friend's older Sprinter van gets 21mpg and its huge and cruises at 75 easily.

Well, the G500 can easily cruise past 100 MPH, I have driven one over 140 MPH.

I think the engine is low tech for reliability reasons. Just like most 100HP diesel engines these days get way over 19 MPG.

Haha yeah the trade off is all that V8 powahhh. ;)

No problem passing slower vehicles at 70+ mph on steeper mountain grades and the mpg never threatened to go into single digits.. unlike the older Suburbans and Land Cruisers I grew up with.
