I'm thinking I'm going to go ahead and bite the bullet and just order the proper angular gear for my axles/tires: viewtopic.php?t=13722&start=10

I have 4.88 axles and a new speedometer cable. Orginal VDO 100mm speedometer that has been professionally overhauled. This will be the last piece for a "perfect" set-up.

Based on Kurt's spreadsheet with my variables I believe that I need 0.522 angular gear number from MB, reference number 8. I think this is part number: A4602801029. The only place I can find this unit is here: https://www.fixparts-online.com/en/merc ... 01029.html which makes me nervous due to the expense.

Do you know where else I can find this angular gear..? Guido do you have a way to purchase this?

The angular gear/housing number that I need for my gears/tires is currently not available in Germany. So it looks like I'm back to trying to replace the seal on the one I have... which scares the sheet out of me.

Anyone actually ever performed this task before? I can't be the only one that has TC fluid running up their speedometer cable. I've cleaned up the dash from all of the oil and don't want to do that again anytime soon... what a mess.

Got to be someone who's successfully completed this seal replacement... especially when you think about how expensive that replacement gear housing is

This may sound bit weird. I know for sure that I have ordered that shaft seal, clearly stated in invoice. And one on transfer case looks very fresh now. No hole outside. But I don’t remember exact process or that there was any hassle. Also, no photos of that step. I would like to say that I was able to just pick the old seal out with very thin screwdriver by folding/pressing that seal metal edge into itself. And then tap in new one. Without taking shaft apart
