But, I think I have the answer I need, which is this isn't a thing the community has experience doing, so I'll be taking my own chances when I do it, which is a reasonable answer.
It sounds like you already have everything figured out, but in the odd chance that you don't, you may want to contact Couch Offroad in Denver. I believe they've done a few portal axles.
Hmmm....that's useful. I didn't realize they were in Denver and if I go the DV Max portals they will need a support welded on which is the one thing I can't do with my current skill set. I really need to learn to weld.
I spent some time today looking up caliper pricing and they are quite expensive, looks like it would cost me close to $2k to do the brake swap. Interestingly, the AMG calipers are cheaper than the non-AMG calipers. I don't want 16" wheels quite that badly, so I'm going to abandon this idea and just figure out which 18" beadlocks to get.
You may be able to find deals on fleebay. I got a set, one side was frozen, 350$ shipped. Then had them rebuilt, plus MB parts and pistons. Came to about $1K. Ebay now has them for about 450$ for each caliper. For that FourByFour price looks reasonable with 600$ each but I don’t know where the items are or uses MB genuine parts. http://www.fourbyfourclub.com/W463Brake ... iperFL.htm. I think MB new is about 900$ each.
Do the trail ready have CTIS support? I can’t tell from the descriptions. My favorite so far are the new DV Max wheels. They protect the bolts and the CFIS line much better than other designs I have seen.
