Engine Swap ??

I see a lot of riggs on this forum that have diesel swaps. I have seen one with a Mercedes V8 swap.
I am going to offend if I suggest a non Mercedes V8 swapin my 280GE ???? I am planning a Chevy swap. :o
5.3 L LS Chevy and a 4L60 trans. I guess that makes it a "G530" ??

Chris is on-point with his question. Be aware of the direction of rotation for all of the TC input & output shafts... and of the assembled lengths of each piece. I usually hear people who start with this idea end up swapping out axles, TC, brakes, etc... which does not seem like an upgrade to me.

I am using the stock T-case. Both engines rotate the same direction. The orig engine was pretty tired and has at least one burned valve. So a rebuild was in order or in my case, and bone stock motor from a 2002 suburban will give me a few more ponies. I isn't going to be easy but it is coming along. This rig is something my wife fell in love with and won't get beat on very much. I will add a few pics ofthe progress so far.

Very narrow frame.... Exhaust is going to be very creative. shallow Camaro oil pan and trans pan.

Pretty cool! Is there enough room for the auto-trans?

We once bought a 230G LWB G with small block Chevy transplant, frame was severely notched for oil filter access, so much so it was a miracle it did not bend in half.

Hopefully you weren’t planning on doing that too...

Google Chuque Henry’s “Gzilla”, his had an LT1 but similar figment issues no doubt.

Why not use a remote oil filter location kit for a SBC, they make a million different styles

(This one only has one of two lines installed, the other line isn't shown)

The oil filter actually takes up space within the oil pan foot print, so no issue there. As to the clearance issues so far. The trans pan and the ft drive shaft are trying to be in the same spot. I have installed a shallow trans pan to help the clearance. I may have to cant the engine to the left side some. being fuel injected I don't think It will hurt anything. still working the placement. The exhaust will exit above the frame out through the inner fenders.
