The photo of your axle shows 730397 which is non vented in EPC

Indeed, it links to A4604210112/A4604210012, depending on axle number. All of the relevant parts pictures I pull up show an unvented disk.

But, things get weirder. Three different calipers are specified for the 730.397 axle
A0044206983, which also shows up on the axle with the vented disks (730.395)
A0044207083, which also shows up on the axle with the vented disks (730.395)
A0044206783, which has note [008]: "Not for use with ventilated brake".

Not sure what to make of all of that. Maybe the vented caliper can reach in far enough for the non-vented disk?

Any markings on the caliper itself?

Then it would only reach in from one side (the outer half). This is NOT a vented disc caliper.
Very simple job that’s become muddled and over complicated.

Thanks for everyone’s attention to my G peculiarities. I think everything went together fitting with no apparent oddness.... it all seemed meant to be except the old brake pads have little “ears” that are not centered so when installed opposing each other they offset from centre..... but the new pads little “ears” are centered so are in alignment when installed. These ears do not seem to be a registering device or interact with any clips. So otherwise the installation seems to be as one would expect.

I guess we have discovered some exceptions to what is thought to be a true design change “from this date” forward.

Out a sake of completeness I will look for a part number on the calipers. A few days from now though.

Once again unless you can see a spacer between the halves of the caliper it was never vented.

As the recipient of this advice I appreciate it very much although gave me some cause for concern regarding vented vs non-vented. We are not done yet though!!!! Still have to do the rear rotors.

I will tackle those on Tuesday and then my steering parts arrive shortly thereafter from EuroTruck. Look for a new thread on that if I have troubles.

I echo Gelande’s thoughts on the forum. Maybe we should run the world on such a model of helpfulness. Just imagine! But then everyone would have to have G wagons in that case!
