On my mini-treffen down to CLT to catch a flight for the real treffen, I looked down at my Waze ap and was surprised to see this:
I took this picture to show at the Treffen because I didn’t think anyone would believe me
This was flat and and busy interstate... I was simply trying to merge/keep up to not miss several exits to the airport.
W460 cabrio with super duper heavy hard top on, lead-lined rear bench seat in, 4:88 diffs, 35” tires 617a with superpump, stock Garret turbo, stock 460 radiator, no intercooler (yet), Ironbox 5-speed. Temps were just above half and it was in the 70’s IIRC.
My truck has always run great on the highway with this configuration up to about 69... then I would sometimes get a weird oscillation in the cab and start to feel like I was time traveling. After recent tweaks to my hard top or with my new soft top I can run, well, 84 and it just goes without any drama other than a little shimmy in the steering wheels due to 35 KO2’s. I then start to worry about brakes with 35’s, handling, reaction times etc. in my 460 at that speed.
I’ve always found my 460 “at home” on back roads or highways between 55 and 65 MPH. 70 on the interstate is ok. Anything past that and you’re really paying attention... or at least you should be.
