How to remove ignition lock

Trying to remove my ignition lock on a 1993 300ge so that I can replace it and the cylinder.
I have a key but it won't turn the cylinder to the start position.
Have removed the key surround and part of the dashboard
Loosened the clamp on the steering column
The lock assembly is now loose but won't come out.
Is there a pin somewhere that I might be missing?

Thank you

Yes if it is like a W460.
On the back of the shaft that goes into the steering column (it locks the steering wheel) - about midway between the lockset and the steering column is a 3-4mm round knob/button that you press in and then you can turn the whole unit clockwise for clearance and pull it out.
A mirror and a light will help, but I think you can also feel around for it.

Thanks for the photos! I found the button but the steering lock has to be disengaged for it to be pushed in. Managed to turn what was left of the ignition cylinder with a screwdriver and disengage it.
What does the little black switch on the front of the assembly do? Ill try and post a photo of it.

If the switch didn't have anything plugged into it (likely) then you can ignore it.

These pictures should be a warning to early W463 owners who have not already disabled the steering column lock. This is easy to do until the column lock stops working. it is a destructive pain in the ass after that. Fix it now.

Just found it in an older thread its the key buzzer switch.

Should I disable the column lock on the new one or will it not matter at that point?

Electrical bits are damaged as well so ill do the lot while I have it apart.
Do not want to go through that process again.

Definitely disable it. It serves no useful purpose. Anyone targeting your G for theft is likely to use a flatbed truck to haul it away.

I performed this surgery after getting it locked,,,,, I think I posted a detailed description and photos somewhere on the forum. I certainly second AlanMcR's advice...also known as Geezus ... I drilled it out in place and through the hole jimmied the stuck plunger out of the locked position then using a self taping screw locked the plunger in position. I was daunting at first but actually fairly straight forward.
