Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I have a 290GDT as well , I am located in Nicaragua , replacement parts are virtually non existant here and would hate to have to import a bunch of different things without knowing the exact cause. If you issue was fixed, what was the solution for you? I have the same exact problem .

it is a 2001 GDT , I have the same symptoms as the OP. It Is an OM602.A.983 with 722.331 auto trans.

While driving on flat even surfaces the car can get to 50 K/PH but it would not pass 3,500 RPM. Going up hill it has no virtually no power, I can mash the accelerator pedal and it does nothing. It feels as if the car is running out of fuel . It does not overheat , Intercooler and I/C circulation pump are clean and good. No Vaccum Leaks. Fuel system has had all filters and gas tank cleaned out.
The Injectors were flow tested and are spraying at 2500 PSI , is that too low ? I can rule out the injection pump because I tested mine on another car and it ran beautifully.I have an error code of ""P1351 Start of delivery /injection control loop". What would be the symptoms of a bad crankshaft postion sensor?

check for a loose connection on the wire harness above the brake booster, check for a broken wire.,,make sure there is no gunk on the injector pump prefilter

Intercooler water-air. Its own closed system.

It still needs to get rid of the heat. Note the a separate radiator in front of the main radiator. The intercooler itself does look interesting though. Might be small enough to be able to be tucked into the left side fender. Which would be nice for folks doing OM606 conversions.

The original 290gdt intercooler is rather expensive. You could have a custom highflow version made to fit perfectly into the inner fender for the same money.
