Do you have a “loose” vacuum line looking for a place to connect to ? ie: distributor

I agree with Mike look for a disconnected vacuum line if there is none then, the PO may have deleted the vacuum advance for a mechanical distributer years ago.
If you want to return to the vacuum advance system this one states that it is for the m102 and 230GE motor. https://www.german-spob.com/start.php?t ... paget=gebr

Here in the states you can search for a 230E from the W123 series Mercedes. That should yield more results for you.

Yes there are two vacuum lines at the base of the throttle body pedestal. Maybe they are both plugs even though they just look like cut lines... I think one of them is my air leak which I ve been suspecting.
I agree with you Mark - I think the PO replaced with vacuum advance with a non vacuum ignition distributor. I don’t think this can ever run right this way even though it does and one may never look further but to me it feels a little muted and there is an rpm lazyness when you let off the throttle. It tends to stay revved up unless you let off completely. Nothing is hanging up in the linkage and the air diaphragm is moving freely so I m slowly replacing every gasket that can leak air, or fuel. (Injector seals, manifold gaskets etc) and i stumbled on an open vacuum line stub sticking out of the tb housing.
Ordered the rock auto refurb piece and hope it works. Maybe I will have to swap some pieces between the two maybe it will work without. Its listed as fitting the 102.

I would remove the distributor pull out the points base plate and see if the mechanical weights and springs are moving freely. Thoroughly clean the area

We ve done that. I think Distributor is working fine. I just never realized that it was supposed to be a different model on there.

Ok here is the comparison of the new one (shot in the dark) and the current one.
I don’t think I can fit this one in

Guido the part numbers listed for the refurbished one are Part Number(s): 0031582801, 0237002094, 0237002098. I can certainly send it to you no problem.

DesertStar - I think mine is mechanical fuel injection. So yes it is fuel injected but not electronic like the later versions of this fantastically amazing state of the art Bosch creation. I believe the rebuilt distributor I just got is meant for an electronic injection system m102.
