280GE throttle control module??

I have been looking at 280GE engine pics to optimize my 1983 280GE and I came across this German fire truck that has an actuator module or something which is attached to the throttle linkage. I am not sure if this is for cruise control or more likely throttle modulation for use of the PTO.

Maybe it has to do with smog equipment as it looks like a Jetronic control module in front of the battery as well. Hmmm.

If someone here has any knowledge of this piece, please let me know. I have a 1983 280GE with a PTO and would love to be able to modulate the throttle or add cruise control if possible.

I think I have a module you outlined in yellow, but I think it came from a W123 300TDT which had cruise control. I will try to take a picture of it in the near future.

But being it a firetruck, I put my money on it for RPM control.

Here are some pics and numbers from the cruise control set that came out of a W123 300TDT.
VDO unit looks pretty similar as what you are showing in that firetruck picture.

Thanks for that Bram. The actuator motor/control module is readily available used. Maybe I will get one and try to wire it up to a PTO idle switch. I'm not really interested in setting up cruise control for this car, but maybe the tach pickup on the front flywheel could be used for target rpm signal. But, that may be too complicated for me, I think. Maybe it can be done. Worth spending $75 on it.

I need to do the same thing, but as I’m installing a PTO driven generator, I will need a 50Hz (3000rpm) input to get my power supply up to spec, so rpm is somewhat critical.

I got a throttle rpm set out of an old range rover, out of which this whole generator set came, but that has a real bulky actuator.
Maybe something more modern and plug-and-play can be found. Have to do some searching on it.
