I use the Mityvac MV7300. If you have shop air its the way to go. I've had the Top sider, gave it to a friend after I used the mityvac for the first time. Works for any fluid extraction. I use it to suck out stuck brake fluid from diff cyl, brake lines, coolant from reservoirs, etc.

In my experience, extracting engine oil is not always the best method. My wife's GLK takes over an hour of constant operation to extract most of the engine oil but not even close to all of it. So it can be very slow and inefficient for certain engines i found. I get more oil out via the drain plug on her car. I now put it on the lift and drain while I do the underbody inspection/maintenance. This is only beneficial if you have a lift though.

All my other cars/trucks get the extraction treatment.

Thiemen,

I have other Mityvac products and I have shop air. Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like a decent product.

I agree that the extraction method does not seem the best and takes forever. My Touareg states that is the factory recommended method and yes everything can be done from the top, but it still has a drain plug and is quicker on a lift. If the drain plug is in the lowest position of the pan than you will get everything out and inspect the magnet tip of the plug if you have that type. Having had the pan off of the 606 I can say the dipstick tub is in the right location to do a good job of getting almost everything out though.

But as far as the drain plug with sensor it is a nice piece, heavy brass which is easier on oil pan threads when people go Hulk Hogan on them. I would not have any doubts it will hold up to the use over the years.

For anyone that has done the OM606a swap and WITH A 5 SPD MANUAL behind it, I was hoping to find any tips, tricks, and photos of the shortening of the shift linkage to accommodate the longer engine block (606).

Thanks!

Measure the amount needed to be shortened. Cut that amount off the rods. Tap new threads on the rod and screw on the end. You can purchase rods from various sedans from Europe to use as backups. They did offer a W124 300D sedan in Europe with the OM606N/A and a 5-speed transmission.

There was also a 603N/A with a 5-speed manual in the W124 and the 463 G300, 300GD starting in 1990.
