Well, I'm back to being lost now. Not sure what to do next.

Last time. Change the transmission shifter.

Good luck.

The TCU is in the engine bay electronics box
My VIN producton number is very close to yours 114586, maybe came off the line on the same day

As for Kent's (Gnome) comments above, I have had to replace my shifter more than once

Thanks guys, you're giving me more motivation. I may grab a used one around the corner that's suppose to be good, and like G Nome says it's the easiest to do. Thanks for the diagram too, that was going to be my next question.

Swapped the shifter assembly and no change. Drives exactly the same and still doesn't communicate with the ESM. I think the key is figuring out why it's not communicating.

Okay, swapped the shifter and no change and now I've changed the conductor plate and no change. Still won't shift and it feels like first gear. I'm like at 3500rpm going 20mph.

I think I'm down to the TCU or changing the whole transmission. Not sure how to check the TCU and would rather not buy one (if available) without knowing it's bad.

Did you change the connector at the transmission- which connects to the conductor plate?

Did you pull the TCU and see if it’s full of fluid?

I didn't change the side that comes from the TCU and the TCU and wire sheathing don't have any oil in them. I've disconnected the connector to the transmission and turned on the ignition and then scanned it again and it found ten faults so I think it's communicating. It says no faults otherwise.

I was in Baja a couple months ago and had some faults, ended up in limp mode. A fairly sophisticated local mechanic with a good Snap On code reader was unable to clear the limp home mode. I decided to drive it up to San Diego and a local MB indy shop in Carlsbad cleared the faults with a MB Star system and it drove fine after that.

The scanner still says no communication with the ESM, which is what the dealer also told the previous owner. I've tried a Solus and Autel scanner with the 38-pin connector and they both read the same. I'm wondering if I should figure that part out before anything else now.

Are there wiring diagrams available anywhere?
