The latch itself gets stiff, may be possible to clean and re-lube everything but I haven’t had much luck with that approach.

A new $260 door latch is what solves the apprehensive auto locks for me.

Yes, I have removed all and cleaned years ago thinking some magic would happen and the apprehension ( ;) )would go away. It has always been activate the door locks and then walk around and make sure none of them got lazy.

Too bad the w463 latches dont work on w460.... cheaper new and somewhat plentiful used.

How did you secure the actuator? I see the zip tie but that can't be it?

Are the OE actuators electric or vaccuum like on a W126?
OE is electric

So gave it a bash tonight .. turns out the central locking side of things is via a rod attached to the side of up/down switch and this rod moves a small solenoid that triggers door unlock and lock and sends signal to other doors. Due to this it’s impossible for me to mount the actuator is same location I tried down at the bottom right of door but the rod isn’t long enough and it’s indented in so Rod rubs on the body. Doesn’t feel strong enough to pull lock down but managed to get it to pop up. Gave up for the night will take a fresh look at it tomorrow - so disappointed even if I can mount actuator I think the angle will be too great for it to move the mechanism.

* Update * was able to position actuator near the top and have the rod as straight as can be due to the body of the frame. It seems to have the power to slide the toggle up which is unlock but not enough power to bring toggle down to lock. Actuator I got has a white tip and after searching online for heavy duty I see pics with black tips so ordered one and shall attempt to fit again tomorrow pending the weather. Fingers crossed it works but that lock mechanism feels like it should be a lot easier to move.

Have attached some photos showing how my car is set up. Should the lock/unlock toggle be stiff or very free moving?

Ah ok .. I just rebuilt the door will live with locking only via key. Not wanting to go to expense of new latch looks a nightmare to do.
