The Cummins R2.8 is no 12v , stock it puts out 161hp and 267ft lb of torque, it's a chinese engine rebranded (and optimized, assembled in Columbus using chinese parts, nothing out of the ordinary, many companys do that) by cummins. It can be found in the Foton Tunland chinese pickup truck (where it has a...less than stellar reputation...). I'm not discounting the little crate engine that could, it's already been swapped into many machines with much success, I'm just saying it shouldn't' be confused with the million mile 12v (which itself weights a crapton, I think the starter motor on a 12v puts out more torque than a honda civic
) in stock or modified form. Cummins reputation in the light duty truck industry was built on the 12v, heck my neighbors Case tractor has a 12v, and that reputation carried on somewhat to the 24v, but once emissions systems were put on the 6.7 and later, the reliability suffered. Now, I've helped do 4 emissions delete's on the 6.7, and that makes the engine much more reliable, better fuel economy, and more power. Go figure.
