Greets.

Since I am still dead in the water, I might as well post the work I did to replace the Toasted starter.

Please note, the Torque values are NOT listed for the 280GE in the WIS.... I am using values for a NON-G vehicle so use your own judgment as to whether or not you want to apply them. For the size of bolts, the values seemed "reasonable" to me.... (but so also did Capt. Smith of the Titanic think it "reasonable" to keep at full speed in iceberg alley.....)

I DO know, though, that over tightening the posts on the starter and solenoid CAN damage the unit. 6 Nm for the solenoid, and 14 Nm for the Battery cable sounded OK.

I thought I remembered reading that OTHER G's needed a 10mm Inhex bit to remove the starter. Not mine. 19mm Top Bolt Screws directly into the Starter's threaded hole. The lower is a Bolt and Nut set-up, also 19mm.

Looks like you have a bit more room than the Automatic trans 280GE's.

Is this the A0031519901 starter with the heat shield?
