As a follow-up to my previous post of "Leaking Compressor"--
After contacting (with photos of the problem) I get the answer back, "NO! There is NO repair for such a leak.... You have to buy a new compressor $350"
Well, I decide, instead, I opt to take charge of my own destiny, and visit my local Auto A/C warehouse, showing the owner my problem... He throws a $4.50 gasket set at me and says "This will solve your problem..."
Hmmmm, Nothing ticks me off more than companies being dishonest!
As all projects on the old Klunkerwagen, it gives me a great opportunity to "Learn Something New", in this case A/C work. A/C has always been one of many "Pandora's Boxes" which I thought was a "Taboo" don't try yourself job.
Other than "reclaiming" the original Freon (which was un-necessary in my case due to all the R12 leaked out), the work was quite easy and a "no brainer".
Thanks to Dai's wonderful tip on the Freeze 12, I was able to get around the need for tracking down "Real" R12. Last time I did this, it involved a shady back alley transaction with some guy in a trenchcoat.... a PAIN, and EXPENSIVE!! Unlike "real" R12, Freeze 12 is not harmful to the environment, and is "Legal" for a non-licensed person to buy.... (it is also a FRACTION of the cost of the real stuff).
Anyway, here's the step-by-step for work on the Diavia aftermarket system which uses the Sanden 508 Compressor.
I know this is not exactly "G-Specific", but I hope it helps someone..
