Smaller wheels on G550 2009 version

So I had heard that the brakes were bigger on the front of the new G550, but it seemed so slight.
I found from a friend that the dealer he works for has a G550 in, so I went down to check it out.

It was being prepped in the back, so I brought along a 16" wheel (spare from my G500). Indeed it will go only on the rear of the truck. Just FYI, confirmed, you would need to retro back the brake rotors and calipers to G500 in order to fit the smaller wheels on the 2009 and newer gklasse

I like Tom Sheppard's comments about the more recent 463 G., and its movement away from being a capable off-road vehicle. It seems to me that with each passing year, the US version G is becoming evermore a soccer-mom car for dry pavement use only. Is there any truth that we will soon see a two-wheel drive version, or maybe a Gfor2? ;)

I believe the 17" wheel sold by Viking offroad will fit over the brakes of the newer G550, so this choice is available for more sidewall.

This is a bummer! I am looking at an 09 G550 and was keen on fitting the 16" wheels from the older Gs. How do they fit 16s on the newer G550 with the factory off road package then?

I remember this car being for sale in the Bay Area and I believe it's a 2012 G550 with the 16" Ashtaroth wheels?

I am in the process of purchasing an 09 G550 and would love to put either Ashtaroths or Atiks on them with BFG KOs!

It would be possible to convert the brakes to the smaller style rotors. That's a lot of trouble for the eye-service though.

In Europe, brand new 463s come with 16" wheels still. Maybe they have different rotors or maybe the one Serpe tested had been upgraded.

Of the new G's this is my favorite - 16" closed tear flat black Ash's, yellow indicators and side markers up front, worker side mirrors, blacked out hood badge, fender mount antenna, steel rear bumper, trailer hitch, red and white rear bumper lights, rear door mount license plate holder, diesel, cloth interior, wood rear floor, etc etc
I would prefer no carpets but it really is the best of the old and the new with a warranty :)
