I'll look into it. I know there's ways to get the gas tach to work with the 300GD, but it requires some work. For now, it's just sitting there, not getting a signal from anything. It's been completely disconnected, and I assume at least one or two of the wires in my engine bay were part of that system many years ago.

Keep in mind that the recent (1995+ - OK I'm getting old) diesel engines have a one way clutch mechanism in the pulley. It is meant as a strain relief for the belt, however at idle the clutch allows the alternator spin faster than the engine would normally drive it with a fixed pulley.

Hi All,

Am not sure if this is the spot to put this link.

It is for a universal tack reader off the alternator. Just came across it doing the Powerstroke 7.3 conversion into an older 4x4 van project I am working on.

Hope it helps someone.

Thanks! I'm trying to go towards stock as much as possible, so I'm sure I'll be getting a diesel tach in the future that should wire right up.

Also... you're in Bend OR? I'll be there for work next week. We should meet up!

Check fuel valves on top of the injection pump for leaks. Allows fuel pressure to drop after sitting unused for a while. I changed glow plugs and injectors before replacing the O-rings and small brass washer on the fuel valves.
Engine starts immediately now hot or cold

Check the vacuum lines that run through the firewall to your ignition.
