Thats makes a lot of sense, I connected the one in the rad up but it just didn't seem adequate to me
I do a lot of towing so I will put a engine and trans oil cooler on.
Do you think I need a thermostat on the trans cooler?

Dean

If you do a lot of towing - definatly increase the oilcooling capacity - so it will be equal to what is found in the factory GD250 thru GD300. I have a seperate VDO oilpressure gauge in my vehicle. And can therefore see what happens with water temperature and oilpressure when the oil thermostat reaches it's working temp. There is quite the difference in water temperature when the oilcooler starts to draw out engine heat.

I don't know the requirements for a transmission thermostat. I just know that some of the mysterious "why is my engine running hot" issues that where with GDT290 and GD350 (the old one), can be caused by excessive heat being dumped in from the autobox.

I know of one case where a Bosch specialist ran a GDT290 for 3 hours on a dyno to investigate. They found a defect autobox reaching 240 degrees celsius when they really pushed it. Engine and engine oilcooler was in perfect condition - it was the autobox that overloaded the system.

Did you install the larger water pump, pump housing and smaller pulley?

I would remove and cap the EGR valve.
Nice job on the sump.

I replaced the water pump and thermostat with new but not with the larger 606 version, and I'm still running the larger pulley.
I am going to install large oil coolers for the engine and the trans and if I still need more cooling I'll do install the larger pump and smaller pulley.
And I'll remove the EGR to.

I would advise doing the pump while you have nice access as the pump housing would need to be replaced as well. My 603 with the factory in the radiator oil cooler rarely goes above 80. This new pump was implemented into the late 350 motors. Keep the photos coming.

Here is a southafrican G290 with additional cooling of the autobox.

My motor is in and running, my donor car had no ignition switch in it so I ordered a vacuum shutoff valve, took the switch apart installed the valve and discovered that that there is supposed to be a cam in there to activate the valve when I turn the key, so I made one from a fender washer,
I wired the tach to the front crank position sensor, but the tach doesn't work I tried wiring it a couple different ways, and I tried the both tachometers, still no work, I think it was hooked up to the rear sensor before but I can't do that because the rear sensor was mounted on the pan on the diesel and on the engine on the gaser,
One thing that I discovered is that this is a lot of work!!
But it's also a lot of fun, it's a dream coming true.

I used the factory tach sender that reads the teeth of the flywheel. I also used the donor tach.
It's easy to swap in the tach.

The sender is still available at MB, I think it was around $20

I really like the oil pan.

Did your 103 oil pump work on your 603 engine. Thinking about doing the same with my GE oil pan.
Thanks Ryan.
