Walk-on Hood Ideas

I'm thinking of putting together a walk-on hood.

One plan is to reinforce the hood I have, and spray on some grit paint (using a mask I would laser cut to look like the MB original). I was talking to my neighbour at my shop and he (being a fibreglasser) suggested I should just get a fibreglass hood made. He could take a mold of the original and provide me with a FG hood in a few days.

A foam-core FG hood would be lighter than stock, which would be an advantage - and it would be just as durable as walking on the deck of a boat. But maybe there are some disadvantages I haven't thought of. Anyone else home-brew a walk on hood?

Cheers,

Michael

i also have an idea towards this. i have a spare hood, and hope to brace it from underneath....

FG hood sounds good.can be done, dont see why not.

I'm interested to see how that goes.
Ice gas similar ideas to stiffen up a stock hood. Maybe FG will be easier

Seen the real one. Braces are simple. I will try to dig up few pics.
The braces are contoured to the hood from the inside with mounts on
each side of the hood for the compressed air return shock.
the braces doesn't take up the entire area of the hood.

Be aware of the air filter canister and other components as the
gap between the hood and brace will not interfere with them.
The MB walk on hood does not have the typical insulation.

The main component is the foam fill between the hood and the braces
I don't know what that is. I know it is sprayed on and cured. The material is light.

I don't think fiberglass will work as the hood needs to be flexible and light
and can handle vibration and heat. FG will crack under these condition.

May be the resident expert Guido can take pics of his hood.

MB sells the reinforcement braces for $$$$. The dilemma is still the foam
material needed. Anyone know what that foam material is?
