The 460/461 waist trim is solid rubber with a reinforcing metal strip cast into it. It feels and behaves as a much more substantial part. Much like the difference in the 2 types of 460 headlight surround. The rocker protection pad on the 460 used to be made of solid rubber, the same as the waist trim, but is now only available as the pastic extrusion with a flap to cover the screws.
The 461 side trim went on super easy and looks great. It was a relief that there was no wind noise from the holes when travelling over 95 MPH, I never was able to test that on my old 300GD. I used a stainless black anodized #8 5/8 phillips screw off of Amazon.com for mounting to the body. The standard screw from MB is 4.2x16mm, just about the exact same size. The new 461 uses a trim plug for the holes, part number A0029971486. I haven't seen any of our local G-wagen vendors selling it and I declined to use it as I was concerned about moisture becoming trapped behind the plug, and promoting rust formation of the mild steel insert in the waist trim.
