don't have a needle and nobody in La Paz sells them (I checked most automotive and hardware stores)
I'll take it apart just for the fun of it, get the hardened grease out and put new in
I am also curious to see what I find inside
and I think I found a new home-tool to replace the clamps

Question to Sean - can I open the two CV's and re-grease them?

Sure, you can give it a go. You've got nothing to lose.

Should you need them, there are gasket/boot kits available for each end of the shaft.

There are also repair kits for each end of the shaft.

We have had customers with noisy/vibrating shafts, disassemble, grease and reassemble their shafts, only to find out that they needed a full rebuild kit to make the "clunk" and vibration go away.

Buena suerte mi Amigo!

In lew of a grease gun needle, I have used a large bore hypodermic needle with a 300cc sized syringe. This large size should allow you to get new greese into the rubber seals. I have used on steering links on 1970 vintage W114/115 sedans. Worked great.

Go to a farm or animal feed supply store, where you can find various sizes of these "grease guns" with large-bore needles. I suspect these are sold in Mexico just like they are here in the US, where farmers need to administered drugs to farm animals and horses, etc. These come in many sizes.

Cheers

OK Tom, I'll check out how they poke holes into Mexican cows.

Funny aside, when I lived in Mexico, and my puppy had mange, they treated her with medicine that was for cows. Not sure if the needle was cow sized or not but there was a picture of a little cow on the package and I tried to ask in broken Spanish if that was right for a dog? He said "no problema" and she didn't die so I guess it was ok!

Hello Harald,

The boot/gasket kit is shown in the photo below. The repair kit has the same parts, but it also has a new flange / wear ring to replace the "sloppy" one. (photos below)

Best,

-SP

The one in the middle of the diagram, just above the number 15.
