Okay. Seriously who bought this? One would have to be an enthusiast, right?

what Gs were they that you are referring to as an example?

It is not just because they are gov't vehicles.
Many gov't vehicles can be street registered.

But not if they have been assigned a constructors VIN for offroad use only

Look it maybe possible by mistake at DMV or some loopholes, but you will never have appropriate insurance claim ability if there is an accident. You will never recover the car value if stolen. etc etc

anyways, somebody paid a lot for it, so I hope we see it combined with something else someday and back in action

heck if you own a 3000 acre ranch in the middle of nowhere, then who cares its gonna be neat

as a non runner, covered in dents, and NHTSA saying the car is illegal, not running, parts removed, smashed steering components, and a really high price.....that for me is a deal killer so I did not bid

but for someone else it might be a dream come true

I called NHTSA importation hotline today and gave them the VIN number of the ifav g270 that was for sale in the link. They said they have no record of the vehicle and don’t keep them after X amount of years. So I don’t see how they could have emailed back saying the car was imported for off road use only and not legal. Maybe some disinformation...

No misinformation. I contacted Rena Lee one of the head honchos there for over 20 years, who we have used for years to determine the validity of a G's VIN. She gave me the information regarding this vin. I initially called her office and got some subordinate who gave me the same answer as you received. What Rena says is the gospel.

Amazing Rena is still at her post!
I first wrote to her about a G inquiry in 1999.

Rena is the queen!

I did bid on this truck and I can't believe it brought as much as it did. Will be interesting to see who ends up with it. I almost wonder if another government entity bought it. Although unlikely it is the only way I can justify someone spending that much. They do a lot of research with these vehicles for radar stuff. I just don't see the average American collector spending that much money on a non running horrible condition G that can't be driven on the highway.

This car was a sweet deal at $35K.
Anyone who says otherwise is just plain wrong.

I didn't buy it.
I already have the simpler, older, gas version in better condition.

It would be cool to see some one here have bought it and post during it's rejuvenation.

It can probably be registered and driven on public roads too ;)
