Yes, you are correct on the VIN on the plaque and on the chassis.

To be clear I'm not accusing anything, I've had the wrong VIN's before. Here's the photo's I got the VIN from, that looks like WDB46033317011841 no? If so perhaps the data card is wrong.

You can see the body tag under that, it says "9001" which is the correct color for that shell by the looks of it. So perhaps the data card is wrong, it's happened before.

the engine has been swapped with the 602.

Thank you for the info. you are correct. no center diff. my bad. I thought a similar system to modern G's. The paint claim came from the dealer but i found the Green in my research as well but can find no evidence of green paint anywhere. yes, you have the correct VIN from the chassis.

mogwild wrote:Also for the for sale ad, it's not "triple locked" since there's no center diff on a W460, but nice rig.

I'm wondering how the claim that most of the paint is original" is possible since the VIN brings up data card for a cactus green 300GD, and it's either the best repaint in the world, or I'd be worried the VIN has been tampered with (a federal offence, if I'm not mistaken https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/511) Unless I read it wrong, was hard to read on the tag and frame: 46033317011841 correct?

I think the Jean connection explains it all

Best to search here.
Some owners have had luck, most get a sort of bait and switch type of sales job.
I think a few of his trucks had body swaps so frame is from another (older) truck to get by US regulations.
As I said, best to search here for Jean and g-mercedes as I have no 1st hand knowledge, just what I have read here.
Cheers,

Ok, that is some of the same info I've heard. I didn't personally have any experience with him other than asking him a question about this truck which he quickly responded to. he does a nice job with it though! thanks.

Well, neither the engine or the interior of this G is oem. That pattern didn't exist in the G wagen 1982 as far as I know. Steering wheel is newer, blinker stalk is newer, rubber carpets are after market but I think that I saw the OEM accessory carpets last time this truck was for sale.

Anyway. Still a nice lookimg G that seem to be in very good condition. I would really prefer the OM602 engine.

But maybe a bit confusing to claim that it is original. If anyone has done that.

Yes, the 602 is obviously not OEM. Its amazing that people are noticing the blinker stalk! that's G knowledge right there! rubber mats are aftermarket that I cut to fit. It is in very good condition! thanks.

Can you stoop down and see what kind of trans it is? getrag (all aluminum) or iron box or something else? I suspect a 716.xxx trans from a sedan based on the shifter knob.

You ve mentioned OM602 crate motor. Is it from new? The serial number is behind the valve cover, front left. It can be either a 250cc or 290cc. I suspect it is a 290 since it is imported from NL. The first 6 digit is important: 602xxx would tell me everything. If it is a factory reman, there should be a MB tag on the right side of the engine near the bell housing.

The other thing is to take pics of the front calipers w/ the dual brake lines, trace back to the master cylinder and see where they will lead to. There was a discussion earlier about this.

It would be very helpful to retain the orig VIN for the next owner to chase down replacement parts much easier.

As expected from the data card this is a 300GD when the pictured engine is a 250 or 290 GD - also the engine fitted in the truck only appeared early 90's
