Maybe.
The numbers assume a vehicle would sell for the same amount at each venue but I don't think that is true.
In-person auctions are fun, exciting, in sunny Scottsdale in January, competitive and designed to get you pumped up.
People overbid.
It will be interesting to see what the G mentioned at the start of this post sells for.

right goat, it depends on the car you are selling. For a G I think BAT works great, but for many special interest cars, these large auctions work very well too. Auction houses compete on pass-thru percentage rates, but these rates are always "across the board" rather than specific to certain vehicle types or marques which can be rather miss-leading.

I know a few collectors and dealers that have done well and poorly at the big auctions. Our own club guy Norm has sent cars down sometimes several at a time and have them not sell (huge loss) but other times big wins. With the right egos in the room the prices can go way overboard. So if you have a car that ego-maniacs love to show off in, BJ etc is the place to put it. AKA muscle cars as example, customs, resto-rods, etc.

The seller of that 3-Door gave the thing away. Netted somewhere in the low 20s. That is easily worth $30k+.

I got to take my 75 year old father last year. We flew from Atlanta, spent 3 days across 3 different auctions. It is a great trip. I would much rather spend my entertainment dollars on a car auction than a sporting event. If you have the time I would recommend it to any car person. Food, drinks, people, cars, and other people dropping stacks of cash.
