I've got a 230GE and even with only a rear locker it will go a lot of places. The automatic makes it really easy to keep traction. I think it's an amazing little utility vehicle! Love how you can go w/truck config or put in the seats and carry 8 folks in the back. Fantastic raft shuttle rig!

Freshly, thanks for chiming in and giving your opinion. I also think it’s pretty rad you can have multiple configurations to this rig. Please tell us about the tires you have on yours?

I think you have more than just a rear diff lock.
After reading the description on the w460-461 on the Europa FAQ website I get the impression that the 230GE has not only the rear locker, but also the center is automatically engaged just by switching into 4x4. From Europa website:

"The first lock able to be engaged is the center lock. On the early vehicles (460 chassis- up to 1989), this is as simple as putting the Transfer Case in 4 high or 4 low."

Sure. The earlier models were all old-school 4WD with no center differential. So when it is put into 4WD, it the center is locked. Unfortunately there is no way to be in 4WD without having the center locked. This means that one has to be in 2WD on icy roads or face the inevitable spin at the first bend in the highway.

Yes, would love to hear Rhyno's report on these, and Eddy's too. I find my Swiss 230GE is not really wanting for low-end acceleration, so if the trade off is better traction and a smoother ride for a little loss of speed off of the line, that would seem a good trade.

Use low range (GA) and it is easy to drive with these large tires.

I've never had any problem with the tire size, of course it's the only tires I've had on it so I can't compare.
I easily cruised 65-70mph on I5 from San Francisco to Seattle (when I bought it) and only had hill problems before I realized that I had to manually down shift to third *before* bogging down up a hill. Since then I'm quite happy with the 2.3 -4 banger and these tires.
My friend has a 2006 AMG G500 and is frequently in the shop with electrical issues (windows, transmission, fuel pump etc...). Happy I have so little electronics. She will easily beat me from a standing start, but, I'll drive much further! Just can't figure out why no matter the engine size, 4,6 or 8 cylinders, the millage hovers around 13mpg.
