I have personally dealt with more than 60 gwagen that have failed t case and failed axle diffs from towing

I get at least a call every month from someone who towed, dragged, or flat towed their G behind a camper and blew it up

There seems to be two sides to the debate raised in this topic although neither directly contradicts the other.

As a 460 owner I would like to understand this better. Can a 460 be safely towed per the method described by Sprinter or is the "conclusion" suggested by Mike (i.e. never tow a G get a flatbed) the only way to go?

Thanks

If i remember well , even not engaged front shaft axel turns and this turn is responsable for TC lubrication. Dont know why MB did that...but i think its that way.

I've been using Redline MT 90 in mine for years. Excellent lubrication and right for the syncros.

The front output flange needs to be spinning for the VG80 T-case to get adequate internal lubrication at higher speeds, If you tow a 460 with the front tires off the ground, the front output flange will not lube the tcase and the tcase will fry. Same goes for driving around with the front driveshaft removed without selecting 4x4.

Chris . total agreement .
I needed to drive mine for a while without front shaft .
if not in 4WD the speedo also doesn't work .
I drove for a number of weeks in 4WD without front shaft , and my T/C is still fine .
