'Too Rich' idle odor during morning warm-up in my 280GE

This odor continues while the 'G' is idling at around 11 and 12 rpms.
Once the vehicle has been driven a bit, the idle goes down to the
7.5 - 8.5 range and I no longer get the 'rich' smell. Is there a
gas-air adjustment I should be doing to eliminate the problem or is
this something I should just live with?

Common for most petrol motors to run a little rich at warmup. As you know it takes a bit to warmup and for idle to drop. Sounds like your idle values are where they are suppose to be. Here is a thread that talks about mixture adjustment, and a photo showing where to adjust.

Was able to locate a new 'Gunson' on Ebay U.K.. Delivered price to
me here in U.S. was $142.30 (USD). Also printed out the G-Tech
article on this site by Dave Gomes concerning 'Idle Mixture Adjustment'
using th 'Gunson'. Dave gives a detailed, beautifully photographed
presentation in step-by-step procedure. Did note that a 'Cat' will
adversely affect the adjustment but luckily my 1984 280GE is minus
the 'Cat'.

Yikes...I should have thought to mention that article here. I did notice today that the colder it is the more "rich" smell I get, as we are now getting into the cold season here.
