New G500 Build

Hi Group-
I haven't been posting much on clubgwagon but I read a lot of the posts. Here's a 1999 G500 I picked up from Russ at Europa. Russ did a phenomenal job and was a lot of fun to work with. He even personally delivered it for me. Hope you like it as much as I do.

If you're in the ABQ area and want to talk shop I am around and would be happy to show you the truck.

Looks like Rob's old truck he sold on BaT. New owner must have sold it back to Russ.

I love that silver with the black trim. Looks really nice.
Congrats, the 1999 G500s are the best IMO.

According to Russ this is the truck that started it all with Europa. It was the first to come over and they drove it all around the country having the government modifications done to make it US Gov compliant. As i understand this truck was patient zero of the Europa business model. It spent it's life with a single owner after Russ sold it - and lived in Santa Fe its whole life. 170,000 miles and you'd guess it was new. The owner died, it went to his wife, and then from mother to daughter - who doesn't live in the states- and she sold it back to Russ. I was looking for a low-cost 99 and this really fit the bill. I'm hoping the 170000 aren't too much of an issue. Right now there's a little flare shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear so i'm sure at some point I'll have to work on the transmission. Maybe at that point we put in a low mileage tranny and engine- do it all at once. If you guys have any suggestions I'm all ears. I'm in Albuquerque for the next few months and then head back to Los Angeles with her. Cheers!

On the early 722.6 transmission, there is a spring in the valve control body that can break and wind into itself. It is often in 2 or 3 pieces. The 2->3 flare is a sign of this often with no faults on the Star diagnosis. My 1997 G300td has this exact same issue and I am hoping to get the repair done in the next month or 2. Likely just an afternoon with a filter, gasket and a bottle or two of trans fluid. I have driven thousands of miles in Europe and USA with the 2-3 slip going on.

Get the Sonnax part, the MB spring mentioned in the thread below is incorrect. It is like only $2 or so.

Really cool G you have there. The 170K miles are not much. Should go at least 250K miles before major engine or axle issues.
