Results of my search so far: (May not be Exact quotations, but pretty close):

My Local Farmers with whom I have many policies: "no VIN number found, and no car fax report so we will not consider further". Period.

Seattle AAA: "these vin numbers are not recognized, so send us proof the vehicle exists. Are you sure it's not a Mercedes G230?" Immediately followed by "we can't find info on a Mercedes G230". then: "Send us picture to prove they have seats" - no kidding. Then: What is my occupation, miles to commute to work, birthday, highest level of education, send us a photo copy of your driver's license, and the current certificate of title, then "we'll review it"-- and these guys insured my Pinzgauer 4 years ago.

Hagerty: "Give us the name, address, drivers license number, and primary vehicle of every one who might ever have access (spouse, and each child -even if not a dependent who live nearby), it must be stored in a locked garage with alarm, and oh, don't recognize the VIN numbers.-- computer response.

Farmers in Oregon: "Takes a few steps, but we've insured them before. Send us the VIN number or certificate of title and we'll see what we can do."- and quite earnest in trying to help.

Obviously slow, but progress is being made....

AAA in Oregon here told me they won't insure grey market vehicles. That was at least 10 years ago though.

I was also unable to get Hagerty to insure the G300, and I have my 230SL insured with them already.

The G300 is insured with AAA of Northern California. They might have bent some rules since we have been with them forever.

Every insurance company - like banks, mortgage, stock brokers, etc - has their rules. Some are just strange.
Many come from a lawsuit of the previous year which they lost.
One company may hate Grey Market cars and another wants that business so you just have to search.
I'd suggest using Consumer Report's Property and Casualty Insurers ratings as a start because you'll never know how good your coverage is until you have a claim. Many show you low rates to get you to buy and then fight you tooth and nail when you have a claim.

Hagerty has my 350GDT. I wish I could get Amica to do it...would be cheaper.

And they let me insure for "purchase price"...not that "fair value" crap.

Same thing - and there is nothing wrong with stated value
Both are a specific amount.

Well, not according to them it wasn't.

Their "fair value" was a "researched value for the vehicle at the time it was declared totaled and taking into account the mileage at the time."

Sounded "squishy" to me and far from "same thing"...so I opted for a firm "purchase price" amount.

It gets totaled...I get X-amount in a check. And that amount doesn't change.

Ok, heres what I found for similar coverage of 100/300k, guarantee vehicle value purchase price. Took many calls and meeting with underwriters but this is the approximate comparative costs for a Washington state policy:

Farmers direct: $800/year (as a Puch)
Hagerty through Farmers: $740/year (as a Puch)
American Modern through AAA: $366/year (as a Mercedes only).
American Modern direct: $240/year (as a Puch)
Hagerty direct: required way too much personal info on family members who don't even live near where the truck will be garaged required for my comfort.

I got refusals (for ex-military vehicles) from:
Amica
State Farm
(Both referred me to Hagerty or Am Modern.)
Thanks for your help everyone!!

So what route did you end up choosing for insurance Eddy?

You should be on the road in your new ride soon, no?
