I assume Yoko, Toyo, KO2 are still favored?

I'm almost due. TireRack showing Pirelli Scorpion A/T+ as an option. Anyone tried those vs. KO2s?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I’ll probably try the Cooper AT3 XLT. It’s a new edition (supposedly improved) in the AT3 lineup. Waiting for some 16” wheels to arrive and I’ll probably go with 285/75/16.

@OldSparky I think that Pirelli is only D rated. Probably best to stick with E rated sidewall on a heavy truck like the G. Just my two cents.

BTW tirebuyer.com is probably where I will buy. I don’t remember this site being around the last time I was in the market for tires. They seem to have really good pricing and shipping deals. Hope they’re not selling rejects ;)

They are a bit to soft in the sidewall and don’t corner great (and no it’s not the Pinz :) )
I mud they are great, in ice they suck
235/85r16 on KO2 on the G and love them

Do you think that's just the nature of running that size on the Pinz or is that just how those tires are built?

Sorry for late reply, I think they suck in ice regardless of vehicle.
Pinz stock steel rim is an inch smaller (width) than say Atiks so that does bulge the sidewall a bit

Tire preference is a very personal thing and I've also found that what might be reported as a great performing tire on one vehicle ends up being very mediocre on another manufacturer's similar vehicle. Yeah ... I know, there's nothing similar to a G-class.8-)

In any event, I just thought I'd share my G-class tire experiences ....

I've been running the newer Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 265/65R18 tires on my 2011 G550 for 2 years now. Also available in LT sizes with greater tread depth and beefier sidewalls.

I'd have to say that this updated Geolandar tire is as close to an all-weather/all surface tire as I've been able to find. They are noticeably better on ice than the Nokian WRG3 SUV all-weather tire and far better in the dry, wet, snow and on gravel. On par with other A/T tires in mud (IOW not great).

A tire I see no mention of here is the venerable Hankook Dynapro MT RT03 which I run on my 1991 250GD Wolf. Unlike other dedicated mud tires, they're not hard like hockey pucks when the air temperature dips below freezing, don't wander at highway speeds and are very quiet for a mud tire. The rubber compound is softer than other mud tires which will likely mean shorter tire life. And they look the part of a somewhat "military" tire so perfect for a Wolf.

Hi all,
What's the latest tire I can use on my 1979 280GE (W460) without the need to install any spacers?

I have OEM 16 inch rims.
I'm hoping to put on at least 265/70/16 or 255/65/16
