Try using a pair of scissors to hold the "pin" then push the rubber cap back on.

So glass removal is quite easy if you take your time. There should be a thread on that here or on P3.

Search for this “Odometer Repair, urgent help.” on pointedthree.com

It looks like the button is just a press fit onto the pin.

You can get the glass off but it distorts the ring.

Make the socket in the rubber slightly bigger, so that it just slips on. Then put a drop of hot glue on the pin and slip on a pre heated rubber bit. Once the glue cools it will stay on. Not to hard to remove if you need to.

I wouldn’t remove the glass for this. How would it help? You still need to get that reset knob back on with the glass fitted. :)

If you remove the glass there are new 100mm rings from VDO to buy. Old one doesn’t necessarily have to be distorted on the front, but on the back it will be quite obvious that the gauge has been opened.

Check this out. The part attached to the glass is a threaded sleeve that the reset pin slides into. So removing the glass to put the rubber back into the small hole would make the job easier. This is for a BMW speedo but I would thing the application is the same.

In that case.

To remove the glass, use a small flat screwdriver and pry carefully on the backside of the retaining ring. Work way around the whole ring in small tiny steps. Don’t pry much at a time.

Until the ring can be pushed off the housing carefully by hand.

Mount it back tge opposite way carefully.

There should be no damage to the front of the ring. New rings are available on ebay and such. They are pressed in place using a conical pipe from the backside of the instrument.

From what I have ready you might need special tool to refit the glass on vdo. I think I will just leave it this way. Till moisture cause mold inside then send the unit for repair. I have given up installing the rubber cap.
