using 15x7" or 18" - W463 wheels on W460 280GE 1988.

Post#1 » Sun Sep 06, 2009 7:41 pm

I would like to know if original benz 18" and/or 15" inch allow wheels for the G500, G320 CDI or other W463 wheels would fit directly on my W460 model 280Ge 1988. Do i need an adopter/conversion / or extensions plate. if so where could i buy such a plate. Or should i simply purchase the alloys for the W460 to avoid weakening the axel by using the extension plates

do you know where i could get a spacer plate, the plate has with ten holes which extends the axel by 30mm on each side to accommodate the back spacing ET63 of the W463 model wheel on to the W460 model axel. The typical W460 vehicle takes the ET37 wheel.What will happen if i mount the W463 wheel direct on the W460 car, will the wheel hit the breaks or part of the steering when i turn.

thanks

That early wheel is offset too far inward, and thus would require spacers. As do the Attik wheels, although you can get them on the car at least without, but you will rub in the turns, mostly to the left.

What's largest size tire/rim you were able to install on your W460? Did you require a spacer? Thanks

Depending on the wheel and tire choices, spacers are often required. They can be obtained from H&R or Bloxsport on eBay. I have 35" tires on my SWB W460 and they will lightly rub the radius arms at full lock; it is necessary to trim the frame tubes behind the front wheels. Depending on your setup, large tires can also rub the outer corners of the front fender flares. The rears tend to rub the body seams at full compression.

I should point out that the rubbing is harmless and other than making a little noise occasionally, the benefits of large tires far outweigh the trivial nuisance. My two cents.
