Anyone installed an oil prs. gauge?

Anyone put an oil pressure gauge on their 617? If so, where did you install the sender. Mechanical or electrical? I want to put one in the smaller hole between the two main gauges and Im looking at VDO units. It'd be nice to have one with a warning light in case pressure drops and you arent looking but I dont see anything yet.

Yeah, that's exactly the trade-off that others have debated here. I like to know how my OP is doing, but it's WAY more important to know that it just dropped below acceptable limits, which a light does well.

My 606 will use the original light, possibly with a sender teed in. On my 617, I pulled the original pressure switch and replaced it with a sender from a sedan. I bought a VDO gauge that is nearly identical to the original gauge diameter and very similar style. I have not found an OP gauge that has a light built in - great idea though.

Do you happen to have a pic of that sender install on the 617? I'd like to see if one of the new VDO kits would work with its electrical sender. Like this

And is 80psi enough? I think the relief is set to 110.?

I recall seeing one of those LED gauges having some kind of adjustable warning light or maybe it was a color change. I will do some searches for that.

I'm sure that sender would work fine - though a genuine VDO unit would be about $1 at a wrecker. I think this is the gauge I bought:

It's installed in a panel I made for 3 gauges and a couple of USB ports, so the photo wouldn't really show what you want. The tach position you're suggesting would be slick.

Where did you install the sender exactly? I cant recall where you can tap into the oil system at. Was it on the filter housing?

Sender threads onto rear side of oil filter housing.
OM617a from W126 uses electrical gauge, OM617 from W123 uses mechanical gauge (plastic tube going to cluster).

Pressure sender on OM617a:

... okay, yes, I need to clean my truck.

By the way, the 100 PSI gauge pegs instantly on startup.
